So its been a while since I’ve written one of these up, so forgive me the quick review.
The Story So Far…
Aaron Sigmal and Casimir (AKA Cleon) have met new friends in city of Farrain, where they escaped to from the Undercity. Corander, an apparently insane lore warden with a mysterious knowledge of Sigils, who is on a one man mission to warn the world of the Three, joined the party first, not sure whether or not to try and kill Aaron and Casimir or help them. They tracked down a dragon, stopped a murderer from killing clergy of Solis, and had met with the Thieve’s Guildmaster. They have just completed the final adventure from the Guildmaster, who had them check an ancient tomb for its contents (missing), and then track those contents down (“Elf Hitler” – the Worm that Walks, the Necromancer Ro’Kalan). They were joined by Ash, a Kashmi of the extinct arctic fox tribe, deadly knife master and former sky pirate, at the request of the Guildmaster. Ash told them of Ro’Kalan’s location and plan – to use the city of Alshar Kalan to cast a powerful ritual that would kill every non-Kalani in a thousand miles.
Shortly before the party arrived at Alshar Kalan, they were treated to a visit from the Guildmaster, who offered Casimir a chance to be free of Neron’s influence, he undertook it, and was transformed. The Guildmaster took Arilanna (Casimir’s former thrall) back to Farrain, and disappeared into the fire.
The party arrived at the waterfall city, Alshar Kalan, and battled their way through phantom armor guards, and were herded into an ancient school of magic in Alshar Kalan. It quickly became evident that Ro’Kalan had intended to trap them in the building, filled with ghosts and shadows of Alshar Kalan’s past. Here the party acquired several magic items, and met the Library Stone, an artifact of tremendous knowledge. Using the stone’s knowledge, they broke the enchantment on the building, and escaped into the sewers.
They quickly traversed the sewers, and made their way to temple at the heart of Alshar, to find that only a single entrance was unblocked, and guarded by a dragon corpse. They attempted to sneak past the dragon, but were nearly destroyed by it, until the Guildmaster teleported through the beast’s heart, destroying it. He joined them as they approached the final battle.
Inside, surrounded by an eldritch glow and surrounded by undead minions, including Arilanna’s father, Ro’Kalan was nearing the end of the ritual. Arilanna’s father was armed with a strange dagger, made of void, and when he was rushed by the Guildmaster, both were destroyed by it. Casimir quickly completed a powerful spell, and the rest of party picked off Ro’Kalan’s minions. Casimir fell to the arrows of the skeletal archers, and Ro’Kalan attempted to attack the party. He was cut short by one of Ash’s daggers, a single knife throw ending him. Upon his death, Ro’Kalan’s runemark merged with Aaron’s, and Aaron was knocked unconscious. The dagger, no longer made of void, was snatched up by Ash.
The party, in an attempt to stop this kind of atrocity from ever occurring again, destroyed the Temple. They asked the Library if somehow Ro’Kalan have done something like the Library’s creator, and imbued a portion of his personality into an item. The Library, said yes, and mentioned that there was a particular ritual book in the Alshar Kalan Arcane School that may be just such an item. Casimir instantly teleported to the School. The Corander and Ash raced through the city after him, and quickly set fire to the city. While there, they saw no sign of Casimir, but shortly after leaving, the School exploded in a massive fireball. Casimir and Ash are currently dragging Aaron through the rainforest, on their way back to Farrain. Casimir is assumed to be dead.
