Prestige Class: Arcane Blade
A master of combining magic and swordplay, the arcane blade has learned to use the innate magic in every strike to his advantage. The arcane blade has learned the great secret of all blademasters: the edge of a sword is infinitely long. Knowledge of this secret, and a talent for arcane magic, has allowed him to develop ranged sword techniques, extending his reach and capability on the battlefield.
The first arcane blade was a legendary blademaster arcanist by the name of Talos Amondel. His teachings have been passed down to new generations of those seeking to learn the ultimate secret technique. Arcane blades are characterized by intense willpower, always striving to be the absolute best.
Arcane blades are usually fighters who have discovered they have a knack for arcane magic, and seek to incorporate their magic into combat in a way they can intuitively understand. Rare few arcane blades come from strong magical backgrounds, but those who do can become immensely powerful.
Role: Melee combat masters, an arcane blade can wreak havoc on the battlefield.
Hit Die: d10
To qualify to become an arcane blade, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Base Attack Bonus: +6.
Feats: Arcane Strike, Weapon Focus (longsword, scimitar, bastard sword (one-handed use), or romphaia).
Weapon Proficiency: Must be proficient with one of the following weapons: longsword, scimitar, bastard sword (one-handed use), or romphaia.
Skills: Knowledge(Arcana) 3 ranks.
The arcane blade’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb(Str), Knowledge(Arcana)(Int), Ride(Dex), Sense Motive(Wis), Spellcraft(Int), and Swim(Str).
Skill Ranks at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.
All of the following are class features of the arcane blade prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An arcane blade is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, and medium armor.
Spells per Day: At the indicated levels, an arcane blade gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain other benefits a character of that class would have gained,
except for additional spells per day, spells known (if he is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming an arcane blade, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.
Arcane Slash(Sp): At 1st level, an arcane blade gains the ability to make an Arcane Slash as a standard action. Arcane Slash is a spell-like ability that allows the arcane blade to make a special ranged attack with his sword, to a range of 30 feet. This attack deals the normal damage of the sword, but the attack does not receive bonus damage from his strength modifier, instead it receives Charisma modifier bonus damage (if positive), he also receives no extra damage for a two-handed grip. The attack roll is made as a regular melee attack. Damage from an Arcane Slash is magical in nature, and is considered a force effect, this ability is not subject to arcane spell failure, however it is subject to spell resistance. This attack can only be made with a one-handed sword. At 5th level, Arcane Slash’s range improves to 60 feet. At 9th level, this ability’s range increase to a maximum of 90 feet.
Arcane Armor Training(Ex): At 2nd level, an arcane blade gains Arcane Armor Training as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the requirements. If the arcane blade already has this feat, he may choose any combat feat as a bonus feat.
Arcane Reach(Su): At 3rd level, an arcane blade’s reach improves by +5 feet when wielding a one handed sword. At 7th level, an arcane blade’s reach improves by +10 feet, this supersedes the bonus gained at 3rd level.
Arcane Armor Mastery(Ex): At 6th level, an arcane blade gain Arcane Armor Mastery as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the requirements. If the arcane blade already has this feat, he may choose any combat feat as a bonus feat.
Arcane Whirlwind Slash(Sp): At 10th level, the arcane blade may make a single melee attack as a full round action, dealing his sword’s base damage plus his Charisma modifier (if any) damage to every foe within reach. The attack roll and damage is evaluated separately for each enemy. An arcane blade can use this ability once per day. Arcane whirlwind slash is not subject to arcane armor failure, however it is subject to spell resistance.
