Shiadan

Races: Shiadan, Daemonic Men

The Shiadan are descended from D’Shiadoi and human crossbreeding that occurred toward the end of the First Era. They grew quickly into a true breeding race, and founded Syrq. When Drohen conquered Syrq five hundred years ago, many fled to Shinrom and there Khdet Syrq was founded.

Physical Description
At first glance, the Shiadan appear to be human. Their skin and hair have a gray, blue, or red cast, remnants of their D’Shiadoi heritage. They have small horns, and their eyes are light blue or gray, in some individuals almost white. Shiadan have pointed ears, and tend to favor ornate clothing. Weighing in at about a 150 lbs, and standing around 5 feet 6 inches Shiadan are shorter and slighter than most humans. The average Shiadan lives about 150 years.

Society
Shiadan in Khdet Syrq have fuedal society, and enslave humans and moken. Shiadan slaver airships raid the Ayanil Isles often. They are ruled by the B’yn Aarkah, their “divinely descended” emperor, and his Court. Shiadan nobles are constantly battling for titles and land, and society is based on castes arranged in order of precedence: noble, warrior, farmer, merchant, and slave. Slaves are never Shiadan. Two main exceptions to the caste system are priests and assassins, which may be of any class except slaves. Priests are considered to be outside the class system, and spend their lives in the Temple. Assassins live most of their lives among their clans, hidden from outsiders, only seen when they make a kill. The Shiadan of Syrq Province in Drohen are little more than slaves themselves, having limited rights. These Shiadan may not own land or weapons, and are not allowed to practice their religion.

Relations
Shiadan are feared deeply by the surrounding countries for their skill in battle, their assassins, and arcanists are legendary. They seldom deal with other countries, fearing another betrayal like the one suffered at the hands of the Empire of Drohen. Khdet Syrq is situated far from other lands, and after several wars, the outside world has let the Shiadan be, only resisting when slavers come to take their people.

Alignment and Religion
Shiadan are usually lawful neutral, with tendencies toward lawful evil, however Shiadan of Syrq Province tend toward chaotic good. Deeply religious, Shiadan worship Jihara the Aeon of Balance, the Aeonic Pantheon, and their ancestors. Shiadan priests are clerics.

Adventurers
Shiadan encountered outside of Khdet Syrq are usually exiles or slavers, but some may be from the Syrq Province of Drohen, where the Shiadan have been reduced to peasants, and many seek to escape the Empire. Exiled Shiadan seek to regain their lost honor, and escapees simply desire better lives.
